Tim Heidmann

Counsellor /Supervisor / Parenting Expert / Public Speaker
M. NZAC, M. Ed (Distinction), M. Specialist Teaching, P.G. Dip of Tchg, B. Sc.
My name is Tim Heidmann and I have been working as a Counsellor in North Canterbury since 2008. In that time, I have been the face of Counselling North Canterbury since 2013, I have volunteered and subsequently worked at Presbyterian Support in Rangiora and I have worked for the Youth Aide section of the Rangiora/Kaiapoi Police by counselling youth offenders in a programme that was an alternative to entering the court system. As a result, I have worked with and supported a number of families in the district; families who were referred or directed to me because of my significant experience in supporting families in difficult times. Individual & Family Counselling: The bulk of my recent practice has involved supporting young people and their families when there is a break-down in the functioning of the family unit and consequently I often receive referrals from North Canterbury Schools, Medical Practices, Oranga Tamariki and through 'word-of-mouth'. I also have experience supporting individuals of all ages and couples whom are experiencing difficulty in their relationships. Public Speaking: In recent years, I have been delivering parent education talks across Canterbury Schools and Early Childhood Centres. I was invited to speak at Parents Week 2019 and have delivered talks on topics such as "Managing Anxiety and Developing Resilience" and "Top Tips for Parents". Supervision for School Leaders: There is no doubting the complexities of education and leaders in schools are regularly expected to have the answers to all the questions and problems, but who supports them, the school leaders? Having been a Resource Teacher of Learning and Behaviour (RTLB) for over a decade, a BoT Chair for 9 years and working as a counsellor since 2008, I believe that I am well placed in knowledge and experience to support school leaders as they navigate these complex and often choppy waters.
* Conflict of Interest Statement: Because Tim also works as Head of Student Support at Rangiora High School, he is not able to provide counselling services to children and families who are currently enrolled or directly employed by the RHS Board of Trustees.
